9/11 Memorial on the Small Screen
9/11 Memorial on the Small Screen
In the coming months, the 9/11 Memorial will be featured in several popular television shows. The Memorial plays a different role in each program, but its ongoing presence in the cultural landscape builds public awareness around the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s mission and demonstrates how this sacred space is an essential part of the fabric of life in New York City.
Here’s some information about each program.
Sunday, January 19, at 10 p.m. EST: 9-1-1 Lone Star (FOX)
Nearly 20 years ago, Owen Strand (played by Emmy Award nominee Rob Lowe, Parks and Recreation, The West Wing) was the lone survivor of his Manhattan firehouse on 9/11. In the wake of the attack, Owen had the unenviable task of rebuilding his station. After a similar tragedy happens to a firehouse in Austin, Owen, along with his troubled firefighter son, helps them start anew.
The Memorial’s reflecting pools are visible in a beautiful night-time scene where Owen reflects on his personal experience of the 9/11 attacks.
Wednesday, January 29, at 8 p.m. EST: Undercover Boss (CBS)
Undercover Boss is a two-time Emmy Award–winning reality series that follows high-level executives as they slip anonymously into the rank-and-file of their own organizations. Alan S. McKim, Chairman and CEO of Clean Harbors, the leading environmental and the largest hazardous waste disposal company in North America, visits the Memorial to learn about one employee's experience at Ground Zero.
Sunday, March 1, at 8 p.m. EST: God Friended Me (CBS)
God Friended Me is an uplifting drama about an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside-down when he receives a friend request on social media from "God" and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him.
In a scene on the Memorial, viewers will witness a conversation in the heart of the 9/11 Memorial Glade.
