9/11 Memorial Launches Audio Guide App
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum launched a new app to teach Memorial visitors and those at home about the events of 9/11, the lives of the victims of the attacks, and the design of the Memorial.
The 9/11 Memorial Audio Guide centers on a 40-minute tour narrated by Anthoula Katsimatides, a New Yorker whose brother, John, was killed on 9/11. The tour highlights several victims honored at the Memorial and their lives before 9/11, accompanied by images, audio descriptions, and transcripts on every stop. Display and audio controls allow listeners to zoom in or out, play, pause, rewind, and fast forward through tour stops.
Using map-based technology for easy navigation, the tour leads listeners around the North Pool, down to the South Pool, and back up to the entrance of the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The tour also stops at the Survivor Tree and the 9/11 Memorial Glade.
The app comes with accessibility features including customizable font sizes and color modes for both sighted and low-vision individuals and VoiceOver compatibility on all iOS devices.
The app is available for iPhone users and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store.
