As a Virginia artist creating functional and sculptural art works at the time of the 9/11 events, I felt compelled to commemorate a portion of that day so close to home. I chose exotic woods and glass as my media. Designed as a low table, the work is in the shape of the Pentagon, with one segment removed. Within that segment are 184 black-lacquered wooden balls, each of which represents someone who perished that day. With the help of my Congressional representative this art piece was placed on display within the actual Pentagon in 2003.
