Six months from today, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will lead the nation in commemorating the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks that took the lives of 2,977 men, women, and children in New York City, Arlington, Virginia, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s Education Department is pleased to announce a new partnership with Share My Lesson, a free lesson-sharing website funded by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

Last week, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum welcomed Dr. Morwari Zafar, an anthropologist with experience in international development and national security, and currently an adjunct lecturer at Georgetown University’s Security Studies program, to discuss the role cultural heritage plays in Afghanistan’s nation-building up to and following the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas 20 years ago.

Among this diverse league of dedicated women involved in the rescue and recovery efforts, today we share but four, whose stories and experiences have been captured in the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s collection.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum has just launched its newest virtual tour offering, which provides an exclusive look at the special exhibition, Revealed: The Hunt for Bin Laden.

Some thought New York City would never recover from 9/11, but it did, and it came back stronger than before. We will come through the challenges we face today, we’ll bear the scars, we’ll remember the ones we lost, but we will come through it.

This March, the 20th anniversary of the Bamiyan Buddhas’ destruction, provides a sobering reminder that violence and terrorism continue to threaten humanity’s shared cultural heritage. Yet it also presents an opportunity to reflect on the beauty that can come out of peaceful cultural exchange—like the meeting of people and ideas that created the Bamiyan Buddhas so many centuries ago.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum has launched “Ask an Educator,” a brand-new virtual school program for students in grades 3–12.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum held an intimate, socially distanced ceremony to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993.
