US Veterans Honored with Salute to Service 5-Day Tribute
On Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day, Team Red, White and Blue placed yellow roses at the names of those killed on 9/11 who had served in the United States Armed Forces. This tribute was one of the final events, concluding the five-day Salute to Service at the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
In recognition of their service, veterans received free admission to the Museum throughout the five-day tribute. Veterans, their families, and the visiting public were also able to attend Salute to Service events and programs at the 9/11 Memorial Museum, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial, demonstrations by the USAF Honor Guard Drill Team, and a live talk “The Stories They Tell: World Trade Center Steel in Afghanistan” hosted by Dr. Andrew Hammond, a Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow.
In his Veterans Day letter, 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels stressed that it is “vital that our visitors understand the strong bond between this sacred placeand those who chose to defend our nation.” This year, the 9/11 Memorial Museum was proud to host the third annual Salute to Service and will continue this tradition to honor the courage and sacrifice of United States veterans.
