Tribute at Survivor Tree Commemorates Pulse Nightclub Attack

To mark the third anniversary of the Pulse nightclub attack, members of the public tied nearly 10,000 rainbow-colored ribbons on the railing surrounding the Survivor Tree on Wednesday. The Peace of Heart Choir performed a musical tribute at the Survivor Tree. 

In 2016, the City of Orlando received seedlings from the Survivor Tree in memory of the 49 people killed and 58 injured at Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016. The seedling has been planted at the Harry P. Leu Gardens in Orlando.

In collaboration with the onePULSE Foundation, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum has provided ongoing support to the Orlando community. We have shared best practices related to outreach, leadership development, tribute preservation and conservation, memorialization and other key lessons learned in our own experience.

The anniversary coincided with WorldPride 2019 and Stonewall 50. WorldPride takes place periodically in cities around the world and is one of the most anticipated celebrations for the LGBTQ+ community. This year, to honor the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, New York City was chosen to host the event.
