LEAD Award Presented to 9/11 Memorial Staff Member
A member of the 9/11 Memorial Museum staff was recently awarded the Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disabilities (LEAD) Award for Emerging Leaders, recognizing the leadership and work that promotes accessibility and inclusion in cultural institutions, according to its website.
Emmanuel von Schack, coordinator of access programs at the memorial and museum, accepted the award Friday, Aug. 5 during the LEAD Awards Night.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum is committed to providing access and inclusion for all visitors. As access coordinator, von Schack works closely with different departments within the organization, sharing the common goal of making our institution an accessible and inclusive space for visitors and employees with disabilities.
During his career, von Schack has presented at conferences locally, nationally and internationally. His most recent group presentations in 2016 include: "The Face of Your Organization: Does it Include People with Disabilities?," "Reconsidering Description," and "Creating Engaging Opportunities for Cultural Tourism for People with Disabilities" at the LEAD Annual Conference; "Best Practices in Accessibility and Inclusion: A Hands-On Workshop" at the MoMA; and "Inclusive Engagement: Modeling Teaching Strategies for Access Audiences" at the New York City Museum Educators Roundtable Annual Conference.
He received his bachelor’s degree in history and European studies from New York University and his master’s degree in art history from Hunter College, CUNY.
