Army Sgt. Serving in Afghanistan Honors Wish of 9/11 Victim's Father

"I wanted to honor the love between a father and his daughter," Army 1st Sgt. Mark Baker said about his decision to pin to his gear a pair of American Airline wings in honor of flight attendant Sara Low, who was killed on Flight 11 on Sept. 11, 2001. Baker of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment detailed his tribute in a story on the Army's website.

Low's roommate gave Sara Low's father, Mike Low, the American Airlines flight attendant wings, which are now in the collection of the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Mike Low wanted to honor his daughter's memory by having the wings worn in the front lines of combat in Afghanistan, according to the website.

During a mission briefing, a letter received by the Army from Mike Low was read aloud, detailing his wish. Baker, a staff sergeant at the time who attended the meeting, would obliged Low in 2002. He wore the wings on his uniform in 20 missions.

"These wings are one of the most valued possessions in the collection," said Jenny Pachucki, an oral historian for the memorial museum. "We are thrilled to have someone put a voice to this story."
