Eight years after the killing of Osama bin Laden, the State Department recently declared al-Qaeda to be as great a threat to the United States as it has ever been. At the same time, the administration has confirmed that Hamza bin Laden, a potential successor to his father, was killed in an airstrike, and recent intelligence suggests that al-Qaeda’s current leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, may have serious health complications. As a complement to the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s special exhibition Revealed: The Hunt for Bin Laden, al-Qaeda experts Peter Bergen, Bruce Hoffman, Mary E. Galligan, and Mark Stout, who advised the Museum in the creation of the exhibition, discuss the future of this terrorist group and the wider jihadist movement.
